- The course is designed for students who are not specialized in teaching English. It provides a general overview of how to teach English as a foreign language, with the special focus on young learners (4-6 and 7-10 years old). Students discuss the principles of developing young learners' English knowledge, and they learn and try some age-appropriate methods and techniques, which is followed by feedback. Students learn the basic terms of methodology, and they gain some experience in planning the teaching process. Through collaboration, individual creative work and reflective discussion, their critical thinking is developed.
- Course content
- The young learner and the foreign language. The importance of rhymes and play in language learning. The Communicative approach. Developing the four skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing. Teaching vocabulary and pronunciation. Indirect approaches to learn grammar. Culture in the TEFL classroom. The structure of the English lesson.
