Geographies of nation-building projects in Central Europe geonatbuil25ex-1 This seminar-style course deals with the specific geographical and scientific-historical aspects of nation-building processes and state border demarcation concepts in the Central and Eastern European region over the past two hundred years, with particular emphasis on Czech/Slovak-Hungarian relations. It presents the contemporary geographers and experts involved in the peace negotiations following World War I and the arguments they put forward during the planning, implementation, and evaluation of border demarcations, also touching on how these arguments fit into the scientific paradigms of the time (Dvorský, Korčák, Hromádka, and Teleki, Cholnoky, Prinz). If possible, a study trip will be organized to provide a practical demonstration of the conflicts over land use surrounding the symbolism of border demarcations, which continue to this day, in the form of an "urban walk" on both sides of the Slovak-Hungarian border (Esztergom-Ostrihom/Štúrovo-Párkány).
