- Learning outcomes
- The aim of the course is to encourage students to deepen their knowledge and skills in various environmental monitoring techniques through the completion of practice-oriented tasks. It is important that students who successfully complete the course acquire a general foundational knowledge that can be applied in multiple fields and utilized in later specializations. Without proper monitoring/sampling (including the sampling method, sample storage, and sample preparation), measurements and analyses may lead to poor results or incorrect conclusions. Environmental monitoring can be applied in numerous classical scientific fields, such as botany, zoology, microbiology, soil science, as well as air and water chemistry, among others. Through both fieldwork and laboratory practice, students will gain experience in sampling and monitoring techniques and methods, as well as in sample preparation. They will also broaden their practical knowledge related to the training by visiting industrial facilities, so they will be able to apply their skills after completing their university studies.
- Course content
- During this course students obtain the following competences (practical skills): Monitoring methods of animal (birds) in the land Plant monitoring, field and lab. work about botany, Monitoring methods of animal (insects) in water Sampling of surface waters, and soil sampling (methodology) and sample preparation for several measurements, Microbiological laboratory techniques, To investigate various environmental problems students can visit: Visit ’Zöld sziget’ pontoon ship (Environmental and shipping service), Visit Budapest Waste-to -Energy Plant Visit Messer Hungarogaz Kft Visit Danube Research Institute
- Assessment method
- Participation in the course (every week) is compulsory. (Attendance list will be kept) Please consider that there is no replacement option of the field or lab work A test exam based on the course topics will be held at the end of the semester.
