- Knowledge: getting familiar with the modern notions of nonlinear and numerical functional analysis Ability: to understand and use modern nonlinear and numerical functional analysis Attitude: the need to extend the mathematical knowledge, to gain new analytic and applied programming skills Autonomy and Responsibility: based on the gained knowledge in nonlinear and numerical functional analysis, the students are able to decide which tools are the most suitable to solve applied problems
- Course content
- Basic properties of nonlinear operators. Derivatives, potential operators, monotone operators, duality. Solvability of operator equations. Variational principle, minimization of functionals. Applications to nonlinear partial differential equations. Approximation methods in Hilbert space. Ritz–Galerkin type projection methods. Gradient type and Newton-Kantorovich iterative solution methods.
