- Learning outcomes
- Throughout the course, students will expand on their existing knowledge of environmental science to enhance their understanding of the fundamental physical, chemical, and biological processes involved in water and wastewater treatment technologies. By gaining a deeper insight into these basic processes and the technologies that implement them, students will be able to comprehend complex water and wastewater treatment systems. This practice-oriented course will cover various methods for identifying and addressing issues in treatment systems. Students will also have the opportunity to further their theoretical knowledge by visiting industrial facilities, where industry experts will share their experiences. By exploring the industrial applications of the concepts learned in class, students will acquire the confidence and knowledge to apply their skills effectively in any industrial setting.
- Course content
- The Water and Wastewater Treatment Practical course provides hands-on, experience-based learning that focuses on the real-world applications of water and wastewater management processes. Emphasizing practical experience, the course includes extensive field exercises and on-site training, allowing students to directly engage with the operational aspects of water treatment plants, wastewater facilities, and laboratory testing procedures. A strong foundation in environmental studies underpins the course, helping students understand the broader ecological and technological implications of water and wastewater treatment. The course also emphasizes the fundamental physical, chemical, and biological phenomena that drive treatment processes — including sedimentation, filtration, chemical coagulation, disinfection, and biological degradation. This practice-based course prepares students for a comprehensive understanding of water and wastewater treatment utility operations. In the first semester, the course focuses on water treatment applications, while in the second semester, it provides an opportunity to understand wastewater treatment technologies.
