Learning outcomes
The course equips students with the basic skills to approach the fundamental transformations and complex phenomena in Shakespearean tragedy. It explores generic innovations in drama, changes of world-view and of notions about heroism and selfhood. Along with analysing and discussing the selected works, it also seeks to enable students to master difficult texts on their own and acquire the basics of critical thinking and writing.
Course content
The seminars are devoted to the discussion of one representative work in each class; they provide students with first-hand experience of various modes and genres, and are conducted through the open discussion of the assigned texts, and the close analysis of designated passages.
Assessment method
Assessment is based on attendance, participation in class discussions and a 15-minute oral presentation.
