- Oktatás célja
- The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the poetical oeuvre of Alexander Pope. It introduces students to the idioms and genres of early eighteenth-century English poetry, to its historical contexts and to the characteristics of classicist poetics. The classes are devoted to the reading and discussion of some of Pope’s major poems (in some cases focusing only on selected extracts from them). Interpretations of passages discussed together are supplemented by sketching their contexts in literary- and political history.
