Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to introduce and familiarize students with second language development from a Complex Dynamic Systems Theory perspective. Knowledge Students know the main characteristics of second language development, understand second language development from a Complex Dynamic Systems Theory perspective, are aware of the advantages and disadvantages of studies conducted from a Complex Dynamic Systems Theory perspective. Skills Students are able to understand and interpret simple academic articles conducted from a Complex Dynamic Systems Theory perspective, are able to criticize studies using pre-test post-test research design. Attitudes Students aim to know and understand Complex Dynamic Systems Theory, show interest in studies conducted from a Complex Dynamic Systems Theory perspective, accept the different theories of second language acquisition. Autonomy and responsibility Students take responsibility, perform tasks on their own, make decisions on their own.
Course content
The lectures show second language development from a Complex Dynamic Systems perspective. The lectures pay a special attention to the nonlinear development, variability, and dynamic interactions. Furthermore, the lectures cover second language motivation from a Complex Dynamic Systems perspective.
Assessment method
Written examination by multiple choice questions.
