- Oktatás célja
- This experimental course will provide an immersive exploration of the multilinguistic and multi-Englishing practices in some of the coolest superdiverse neighboorhoods of London.
- Tantárgy tartalma
- We are going to sample entire streets with their streetscapes, inhabitants, businesses (leisure, commercial) via public and private communication domains (youtube accounts, foursquare, airbnb, websites, facebook, instagram, podcasts) to gauge the emergent dynamics of linguistic diversity of evolving social networks in transient multiethnic metropolitan spaces. Besides reading linguistics articles, we are going to watch a great number of recent tv series showing typification of individuals from these milieus. The four streets to choose from can be found in Dalston, Islington, Notting Hill and Brixton. Explorative student group projects will serf-organise around these 4 neighbourhoods during the course, with input from linguistic articles and the aformentioned domains, with my input. Next autumn semester will see us doing Brooklyn, NY along the same principles.
