- The purpose of the education is to provide an overview of the cultural anthropological research traditions and research methods of the nation, including the national consciousness, national culture, in such a way that, based on the knowledge acquired here, the students are able to conduct their own empirical research, even with the aim of an undergraduate final thesis. also initiate. The aim of the subject is to get to know and analyze the main scientific and everyday discourses related to the nation from a conceptual and content point of view.
- Course content
- The goals, methods, and sources of the nation's anthropological research. What is a nation? The construction of the nation. National perceptions. The "imagined community" and the "invented tradition". The roles of the nation. The nation and nationalism. The nation and the time. The nation and the language, religion, etc. What is Hungarian? The autostereotype. The history of the Hungarian national idea. National characterology. What is Hungarian? The heterostereotype. How do we form an image of other nations, and how do others form an image of us? Our place in Europe. Hungarians between East and West. External reference points of the nation. Symbolic rivalry between nations. From the 18th-century "Völkertafel" to "What the Finns Are Like". The nationalization of "time". National heroes and myths. The search for continuity. Historical cults. The nationalization of the "space". Changes in the meaning of the concepts of homeland, homeland and home in the age of modernity. The symbolic creation of the national landscape – the Hungarian Plain. Nationalization of the public square: street names, public sculptures and monuments. National rites. The nationalization of everyday culture, the process of nationalization. Creation, reinterpretation, scrapping and revitalization of national symbols. National symbolic connotations of everyday life. The "pure source" of cultural construction in Hungary: folk, peasant culture. Social movements, the question of the population. Different eras of folklorism. - Assessment method
- Assessment and evaluation system: colloquium ticket. The basic guidelines for the evaluation of student work are laid down in the ELTE BTK faculty regulations, which state that the instructor selects the means of evaluation of student work in view of the nature of the knowledge and skills imparted. you can get it individually or as part of a group.
