- The course aims The course will provide students with an overview of the impact of 20th century economic, political and social processes on the life of rural and urban communities. They will observe changes in social mobility, migration, values and mentalities. They will gain an insight into the processes of the 21st century and be informed about the issues, fields and problems of contemporary social history research.
- Course content
- The course provides an overview of the impact of 20th-century economic, political, and social processes on the life of Hungarian rural and urban communities from a European perspective. It examines changes, social mobility, migration and shifts in values and attitudes. Students will gain insight into 21^(st)-century processes and learn about contemporary ethnographic research topics, fields and problems. The seminar-based course involves active student participation and individual and group workshop work. Introduction: Overview of Social Ethnographic Research Social changes at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries Social changes in the first half of the 20th century - Social changes in the second half of the 20^(th) century Social changes from the change of regime to the present day. Status consumption Work organisation and forms of work and cooperation. Work and migration Community and the individual. Value systems and public opinion. Generations and the knowledge base; knowledge transfer. Minorities Society in space. Regional inequalities.
- Assessment method
- Examination and evaluation system:: practical mark. The basic principles of student assessment are set out in the ELTE BTK faculty regulations, which state that, given the nature of the knowledge and skills imparted, lecturers shall select the tools for assessing student work. Grades are generally based on the assessment of written and/or oral work, which students can complete individually or in groups.
