- Oktatás célja
- The course is intended to make the participants acquainted with the principles and working of the American political system, including the operation of the constitutional and extra-constitutional actors.
- Tantárgy tartalma
- The course is organized around the following major themes: The origins of the Constitution; the Bill of Rights. The system of checks and balances. The various branches of the government. The Legislative: congressional elections, the political parties, the operation and functions of the U.S. Congress. The Executive: the election of the President of the U.S., the White House, the departments, as well as the presidential and quasi-presidential agencies. The Judiciary: the ‘dual court system,’ and the federal Supreme Court. The principles and operation of the federal-state relationship. The ‘extra-constitutional’ actors: the media and the pressure groups.

- A written exam at the end of the semester; 60 percent is needed for a pass grade.
