Description
The aim of this course is to give an overview of the theoretical background of discourse analysis and introduce students to selected methods of discourse analysis. The students will become familiar with different approaches to genre analysis, Critical Discourse Analysis and Multimodal Discourse Analysis. The practical component of the course specifically focuses on the relationship among linguistic, paralinguistic and multimodal patterns in written and multimodal discourse analysis. The students will practise analysing the discourses of social media, museums, and advertising among other sites of interest.
