- This course aims to: · Analyse the processes of adaptation in terms of fidelity, genre specificity, visual and verbal style and performance · provide tools for students to examine the Australian cultural values encoded in film and literature and look at the way quality might be assessed in this context · Examine the dichotomies of past/present, classic/contemporary specific to Australian adaptations.

- Course content: · theoretical questions of adaptation · adaptations of the silent era (For the Term of His Natural Life) · 1970s revival (The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith, Picnic at Hanging Rock, My Brilliant Career) · Controversial cases of adaptation · new trends in adaptation

- Assessment of the course will be based on: a) Attendance, participation b) short presentation on a selected topic c) seminar paper (6-8 pages) d) short film review, viewing journal
