- By providing an insight into music, students are introduced to the history, society and culture of 16th -18th-century England.
- Tantárgy tartalma
- The course will explore some important chapters of English music between the 16th and 18th centuries, with special emphasis on vocal music and the choral tradition. The sacred music of Thomas Tallis, the impact of the reformation, musical life under the Stuarts, the rise of the Italian opera and its implications as well as Handel's oratorios will be examined in their cultural contexts.

- In-class test (based on the material of the classes). Oral: the presentation of a chosen topic. Evaluation: contribution to discussions, test and presentation results.
