- Oktatás célja
- The course intends to focus on “Shakespeare-remakes,” (mainly drama adaptations, but we are also going to take a look at other genres as well) which, by destroying or altering the original focal points of the origin-text, provide new and thought-provoking interpretations to the Shakespeare text. Throughout the course we are going to get to know the basic trends in adaptation theory and will see how the theoretical background can function in practice as we examine the texts originating but majorly departing from Shakespeare’s texts. This will help students to form their own questions and reload their interpretations not only of the adaptations but the Shakespeare-corpus as well.
- Tantárgy tartalma
- During the classes we will focus mainly on four well-known tragedies of Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear. The primary texts will be supported not only with apt and extensive theoretical background, but also with additional intermedial content, such as theatre performances, fine arts, film, music and other artforms, which will possibly make the classes more intriguing and colourful. The class will be mostly interactive, and apart from in-class discussions we are also going to use Canvas as a platform to share and discuss material.
