- This course aims to: · investigate the notions and representations of Australian nationality and identity in film/critically examine a range of texts as representations of Australian national experience · engage with important issues pertaining to Australian national identity · provide tools for students to examine Australian cultural values encoded in film

- · representations of Australian white masculinity as it is constructed in relation to war and nature · representations of the colonial/postcolonial context · representations of the relationship of national identity and multiculturalism and immigration · attempts to revise history and national identity to include indigenous people · emergence of a global, postmodern cinema

- Assessment of the course will be based on: a) Attendance, participation b) short presentation on a selected topic c) seminar paper (8-10 pages) d) viewing journal
