- The course will examine the phonology of Old English from the point of view of laryngeal realism.
- Tantárgy tartalma
- The following terms will be discussed: Old English as an aspirating language, the place of H/h/spread in Old English phonology, the status of Germanic fricatives in Old English, enhancement, contrastive, partially contrastive environments, the conditions on passive/perseverative voicing of stops, and especially fricatives. This is a very advanced course in phonological problem solving. Only take it if you are willing to read current articles assigned on a weekly basis and engage in problem solving.

- Weekly ungraded assignments based on the discussions, three graded assignments: two tests, one major end of term assignment (essay) based on guided questions.
