- Knowledge: The aim of the seminar is to introduce students to the representation of Irish culture in American, English and Irish movies. The seminar introduces students the work of award-winning directors and their movies. b. Skills: By the end of the semester, students will be able to identify the differences between English, American and Irish film historiographies and will be able to interpret the different cultural perspectives. c. Attitude: The seminar will help students understand and, as we progress, appreciate cultural differences. Students will develop their critical skills through analyses of films and by the means of visual media. d. Autonomy and responsibility: The seminar will assist students in developping their creativity through classroom discussions and homework assignments.
- Course content
- This seminar is a review of 20th and 21st century Irish film history, with particular attention given to the differences between romantic and realist depictions of Ireland. Heritage films are also analysed along these lines.
- Assessment method
- The final grade is based on the student’s seminar attendance, participation in seminar discussions, homework, and the result of her/his in-person written exam at the end of the term.
