- The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge about the first Spanish-language literary works of Latin American literature, as well as the literature of the colonial period, until the appearance of the first Spanish-American tendency (“modernismo”). Students learn about the professionally accepted procedures of interpreting Spanish-American texts and cultural phenomena and their diversity, as well as to use the technical terminology. A) Knowledge Students ● have at least C1 level, usable language skills, intercultural communicative competence. ● know the rules and registers of spoken and written Spanish, are able to use Spanish fluently, correctly, confidently, in the given context. ● know the characteristic intellectual and artistic trends, forms and works of the colonial period, with special regard to Spanish American literature and its social aspects. ● know the sources of information that can be used in the teaching and learning of Hispanic literature, the possibilities of learning about them, textbooks, the basics of research methodology. B) Ability Students are ● able to use Spanish fluently, correctly, confidently, in the given context. ● able to read original literary texts in Spanish and analyze them with literary criticism. ● able to apply their knowledge correctly and contextually in the course of fluent use of the target language and pedagogical activities. ● able to summarize research results accurately and present individual creative textual analyzes in the form of oral presentations and written argumentative essays. C) Attitude Students ● strive to acquire new knowledge and skills. ● are committed to development through the use of available technologies, among other tools. ● consider it important to continuously improve students' knowledge and skills. ● realistically assess the role of Spanish in teaching language and culture. ● strive to continuously and individually develop their specialized professional and intercultural knowledge. ● consider it important to develop tolerance towards ethnicities and nationalities. ● are open to new phenomena and are able to critique these. D) Autonomy and responsibility Students ● are committed to intensive learning. ● perform learning-related tasks independently. ● take responsibility for their own work, development, achievements and failures. ● have a significant degree of independence in raising and elaborating comprehensive and special issues of their profession, in representing and justifying professional views.
- Course content
- The most important trends, phenomena, genres, authors and literary parallels with European (especially Spanish) literature in the history of the Discoveries and the colonial period. Characteristics of Prehispanic literature and chronicles, the main representative of Baroque poetry (Sor Juana), colonial and 19th century prose, the emergence of Spanish-American modernism.
- Assessment method
- Continuous debriefing and assessment, active class work, reading and reasoning, continuous preparation for lessons, oral reports. Grading 1-5.
