COURSE DESCRIPTION (GENERAL DESCRIPTION) Course title: Psychology and crime Course code: PPK-PSZI:56 Head of the course: Aim of the course Aim of the course: The course serves as an introduction of Criminal Psychology, of the various subjects that concern the overlap of Psychology and Law with an emphasis on criminal matters. Topics cover the processes from development to treatment including the stages of investigations and sentencing from the perspective of Psychology. Learning outcome, competences knowledge and skills: - familiar with the main psychological theories, and explanations of crime and criminality; - familiar with the criminal aspects of certain psychiatric disorders; - have an overview where and in what forms Psychology can fill some gaps in legislative services; attitude: - unprejudiced, respectful, and helpful to people; - familiar with the limits of competence; autonomy and responsibility: - upholds the rules of professional communication and ethics. Content of the course Topics of the course: - Developmental theories and prevention - Personality theories - Relevant psychological constructs - Mental disorders - Investigative support - (Clinical) forensic psychology Learning activities, learning methods: lectures Evaluation of outcomes Learning requirements, mode of evaluation, criteria of evaluation Requirements: - Active participation in classes, in small and large group discussions. - Written exam during the exam period, based on the required readings and the presentations of the lectures.
