This course offers students the chance to develop a variety of key academic research skills for producing a good written project (dissertation, seminar paper) and learn about key concepts of Research Methodology such as Research design, Research Proposal, Databases, Data Collection, Data Analysis, etc. The course introduces and discusses approaches, strategies, and data collection methods. It explains the requirements for an academic work, writing style and layout. Students will learn how to write a complete research proposal that may be conducted in the future.

The course is also designed to be practical to help participants write their seminar paper or thesis.
Course content
The fundamentals of research design: Principles and practices. Designing a research proposal: narrowing down a topic, formulating research questions, planning a project. Undertaking a literature review; Academic Databases; Making the most of the Library. Writing at university level: Formal/Academic style, presentation, language, layout. Referencing: in-text citation conventions and after-text referencing. Plagiarism. Data analysis and critical thinking.
Assessment method
Written end-term test.
