Learning outcomes

a, Knowledge: Have knowledge about the main methods and tools of instrumental analytical chemistry. Can use this theoretical knowledge in practice. Knows how to evaluate the obtained data, as well as their limitations. Knows how to get the latest information on analytical techniques. b, Skills: Can assess and evaluate the raw data of various analytical measurements. Can professionally evaluate and present analytical chemical topics based on available scientific literature. c, Attitude Seeks the application of environmental friendly techniques and procedures in the laboratory work. Welcomes scientific discussions. d, Autonomy and Responsibility Knows the significance of scientific statements and takes responsibility for their consequences. Uses laboratory instrumentation with due respect and responsibility.

Course content

4-5 different instrumental analytical techniques will be presented  for small groups of students depending on the availability of instruments and teachers/operators. e.g. GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-MS, NMR, PAA, Mössbauer spectroscopy…

Assessment method

The course grades originate from two sources with equal weight. One is the grades obtained individually on the lab practices via small written or oral test or evaluation of the work during the practice. The other is the short presentations of students given from topics chosen at the beginning of the course. Attending others’ presentations is obligatory whereas participation in the discussion is encouraged with extra points.
