- Learning outcomes
- a) Knowledge The students possess the recent knowledge of organic- and inorganic chemistry regarding the electronic- and stereostructure and basic molecular transformations. The basic concepts of chemical bonding and its description by valence bond method and simplified MO theory at qualitative level are of pronounced importance. To be informed about the practical aspects of the material covered by the course (e.g. industrial applications based on catalysis) b) Abilities The students possess the ability to recognise the general rules applicable to closely related types of reactions and to utilize the acquired knowledge in solving complex problems. Ability to find and to explore the information from the literature and the available chemical data bases. c) Attitude The students are expected to seek to work on their own. They have to be ready to extend their knowledge in the discipline that can be exploited in the realisation of their professional purposes in their carreer. It is also desirable that the students show interest towards research topics relevant to organometallic chemistry. d) Autonomy and Responsibility Hold responsibility for making decisions on his/her study. Make a point of solving separately the study cases assigned by the lecturer to him/her. Responsible application of the knowledge acquired in the course of his/her study.
- Course content
- The topics are discussed in the 2 following blocks: 1.) General properties of organometallic compounds: metal-carbon bond, stability, ligands, , characteristic reactions (oxidative addition, reductive elimination, insertion, elimination, reactions of the coordinated ligands), general synthetic methods (direct, transmetalation, metalation); 2.) Organometallic chemistry of selected elements: physical properties, stability, synthesis of organometalliccompounds, characteristic chemical properties, applications.
- Assessment method
- Written exam at the end of the semester with five-scale assessment.
