Learning outcomes
a) Knowledge - Have knowledges to select suitable research equipment and method to solve complicated chemical structure problem. b) Abilities - Ability collect experimental data and analyse them in a complex manner in the case of complicated structure determination problems. c) Attitude - Open for discussions with chemists and other trade partners. d) Autonomy and responsibility - Ability to overview professional problems and make reports about them for the chief to make decisions.
Course content
The aim of this course is the experimental introduction to the most important, modern structural research methods, i.e. IR-, Raman-, UV- spectroscopy, EPR and NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, X-ray diffraction and AFM. During this course the students learn the main parts of the instruments, the sample preparation, data acquisition and processing techniques. Some typical real examples are used to demonstrate the ability of the experimental methods mentioned above.
Assessment method
Written exam with five-grade scale at the end of the semester, Gy(5).
