- Oktatás célja
- The aim of this course is to survey the development, plurality, and scope of the poetry of Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett. Beginning from early lyrical and short dramatic experiments, the seminar will also deal with both poets’ epic achievements – The Ring and the Book and Aurora Leigh, respectively. Special attention will be paid to the form of the works discussed and their relation to the Victorian milieu in which they were created.
- Tantárgy tartalma
- We will read mostly poetic and to a lesser extent prose works by Robert Browning and his wife Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Following the chronology of their evolution, we hope to synthesise the reading experience provided by the texts into an organic view or gestalt of the overall output of the Brownings.
