- Oktatás célja
- The aim of this course is to provide a comprehensive reading experience of Thomas Gray’s English-language poetry and place it into the immediate context of Restoration literature and sentimental aesthetics, as well as the broader context of English literature through the 17th and 19th/20th centuries. In doing so, the intensive experience of close reading will be complemented with a more extensive encounter with different eras and genres of literatures in English, but the primary focus will also remain Gray’s oeuvre.
- Tantárgy tartalma
- We will read an extensive selection of Thomas Gray’s poetry as well as a range of related literary and critical texts to gain an insight into the web of Neo-Classical, sentimental, and other compositions. On a meta-academic level, we shall gain some insight into the workings of scientific databases and research pools.
- Számonkérés és értékelés
- Weekly readings; metrical analysis; presentation of a topic; in-class test; end-term essay feedback.
