- The course aims to cover contemporary critical approaches to literature, to facilitate the reading and understanding of secondary literature, and thus help write a thesis.
- Course content
- Starting from formalist, intrinsic approaches (formalism, structuralism, deconstruction), going through psychoanalysis, ethical criticism, and ideology critique (feminism, new historicism and cultural materialism, postcolonialism), we examine texts that have had a fundamental influence on contemporary ways of reading literary texts. Finally, we read together Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels, book 4, using the various approached we have studied.
