- The aim of the course is to introduce students to the work of some significant Irish poets of the 20th and 21st centuries. Students will gain insight into the cultural and historical processes that have influenced modern and contemporary Irish writing. They will also gain experience in interpreting and analysing poetic texts through discussions in class and by preparing individual presentations and essays.
- Course content
- Discussion and analysis of poems by 20th century and contemporary Irish poets and their cultural and historical contextualisation.
- Assessment method
- Students must deliver a 10 minute presentation or lead a 15 minute discussion in class during the semester, and submit an essay of about 3-4 pages submitted at the end of the semester. Active participation in class will also make up a considerable part of the final grade.
