Oktatás célja

Aim of the course: The aim of the course is to provide a practical insight to the actual process of the research in personality psychology by completing partial tasks in a guided research. Students can take part in three partial tasks; thus they can gain practical experience in the following: 1. Literature summary 2. Activity connected to empirical data collection 3. Activity connected to data processing To accomplish the course students write a paper about these three partial tasks which develops the academic writing skills. Learning outcome, competences knowledge: Independent from the completed partial task: The student can use reference manager programs. Depending on the completed partial task: 1. Literature summary: · knows the literature sites, database about personality psychological research · knows how to look for academic literature 2. Activity connected to empirical data collection: · The student knows the professionally accepted rules of the study of personality psychological phenomena · The student is aware of the regulations of research ethics 3. Activity connected to data processing: · The student knows the simpler statistical processes applicable for analyzing personality psychological phenomena · The student knows the application conditions of the simple (univariate) statistical processes and the options of the interpretation of the results of those. attitude: Independent from the completed partial task: · The student demonstrates sensitivity and interest towards the scientific observation of personality psychological phenomena and problems · Acknowledges and tolerates individual differences · While applying his/her knowledge, he/she has empathy, tolerance, flexibility, and creativity skill: Independent from the completed partial task: The student can use academic writing skills. Depending on the completed partial task: 1. Literature summary: · The student is capable of interpreting personality psychological phenomena and knows the historical embedding of the science of personality psychology · The student can realize causal relations, logical thinking, making summarizing analyses. 2. Activity connected to empiric data collection: · The student is capable of differentiated perception of human behavior and efficient recognition of situations. · The student can apply and evaluating simpler personality psychological tests under supervision · The student is capable of evaluating which tasks are within his/her boundaries of competence and does not cross those. 3. Activity connected to data processing: · can do descriptive statistical analysis · can form hypotheses about personality psychological phenomena, and check them with appropriate statistical analysis · can run statistical analysis individually and interpret the results appropriately by using statistical softwares (like SPSS, JASP, R, PSPP, CogStat)

Content of the course Topics of the course The student needs to do all the three (A & B & C) partial tasks during the course: Elements of accomplishing the course One or more can be highlighted from the list below related to the A-B-C tasks A: Literature review · a short summary about at least 3 articles, related to the guided study (individually collected or highlighted by the supervisor), through the given guideline · presentation of at least 1 related article (individually collected or highlighted by the supervisor) B: Activity connected to empirical data collection · development of an instrument · adaptation of an instrument · translation of an instrument · establishment of a research plan · pilot study, pilot study of a questionnaire · data collection (recruitment; in an experiment: supervision of the lab) · coding, making a database · content analysis of texts + any given task highlighted by the supervisor, related to empirical data collection C: Activity connected to data processing Presentation of the statistical analysis on the database, on a BA level. As part of the portfolio, the research field practice will certify the execution of the tasks above in any combinations. The supervisor can ask a final document as a paper with a short report in which the student summarizes the executed tasks. This summary can be complemented with the documents made during the course.
