- Aim of the course Aim of the course: The course aims to give students a comprehensive insight into recent advances in the study of psychopathology in a transdiagnostic dimensional framework and convince them that cognitive science can meaningfully contribute to understanding mental health and psychopathology within the above approach. The course will cover outstanding issues, limitations, and novel perspectives to provide a more nuanced picture. Learning outcome, competences knowledge: basic concepts related to and arguments in favour of a transdiagnostic dimensional approach to psychopathology/mental health selected cognitive science concepts that have classically been shown to be relevant to mental health theoretical knowledge of core research methodologies applied in the field atattitude: openness towards seeing connections between cognitive science and psychopathology/mental health curiosity about the potential healthcare applications of basic cognitive science research curiosity about the cognitive underpinnings of psychopathology/mental health interdisciplinary mindset skskills: critical evaluation of empirical and theoretical articles efficient reading of scientific papers constructive debate skills, both in oral and written format responsibility/ autonomy: independently identify relevant papers independently summarise the point of a paper and identify its strengths and weaknesses form a critical opinion about the literature related to the subject of the course
- Tantárgy tartalma
- Content of the course Topic of the course Categorical vs dimensional models of mental health Comorbidity of mental disorders and transdiagnostic approaches Inter- and intraindividual variation in cognitive functioning Links between specific cognitive mechanisms and psychopathological symptoms vs resilience Research methods: behavioural tasks and the conceptual background of their computational models, experience sampling method, network modelling. Learning activities, learning methods Students independently read chosen theoretical and empirical articles related to the topic of the course Students write a brief critique for each article, which they post to the online course platform Each student gives a presentation summarising one article from the semester’s reading list Students actively participate in discussing the articles in class after the presentations
- Számonkérés és értékelés
- Evaluation of outcomes Learning requirements, mode of evaluation and criteria of evaluation: Active participation in discussions, both in the classroom and online Give a presentation summarising a selected article and presenting a critical opinion that will facilitate the discussion of the article Mode of evaluation: term mark, based on the evaluation of the presentation and the number of critical comments give a presentation summarising a chosen article write a brief critical commentary (sort of an abstract, 150-250 words) for every article and post it on the online course interface (e.g. Teams) Criteria of evaluation: 70% weight - Presentation: presentation technique, content and structure, critical thinking 30% weight - Critical comments: percentage of articles the students critically commented on (150-250 words), but most be >66% to pass
- Irodalomjegyzék
