Course Description Course title: Career Development Communication Training for Doctoral Students Course code: PSZM21-MO-VEZ-111 Aim of the course Different cultures have different kinds of paradigms for social rules and this fact determines the way how we live and how effective our lives. The Character Ethic taught that there are basic principles of effective living, and that people can only experience true success and enduring happiness as the learn and integrate these principles into their basic character and carrier. We can realize that if we wanted to change the situation, we first had to change ourselves. And to change ourselves effectively, we first had to change our perceptions and built new habits. The early “success literature” before 90’s was filled with social image consciousness, techniques, and quick fixes – with social bands-aids and aspirin that addressed acute problems and sometimes even appeared to solve them temporarily but left the underlying chronic problems untouched to fester and resurface time and again. Covey (1989) revolutionized this approach by revealing the deeper roots of success and giving methods on how to achieve it. Since then, there are several other authors who also represent that trend. In the first part of the course we will built basic habits according Covey’s methodology which can help the carrier development e.g. proactivity, be conscious about the final goals; “put thing first”; win-win thinking; cooperation, etc.. The main aim of the second part to understand better how can be prepared well to manage the academic CV, cover letter, online identity, the application process (applying, interviewing, negotiating). The third part of the course are about: how to be a more engaging, effective communicator; how to build productive science collaborations; how to tell your story. Learning outcome, competences knowledge: Practice basic habits which can help the carrier development Be prepared to manage the academic CV, cover letter, online identity, the application process Basic knowledge about how to be a more effective communicator attitude: A critical approach to carrier development, especially regarding methodology and habits skills: Application of carrier development in a detailed way, increased consciousness about the connecting step by step processes.
