- Competencies: Knowledge: Understands the advanced features of genetics and population genetics. Understands and applies the terminology required for understanding genetics and population genetics. Understands the relationships of genetics and population genetics. Understands the importance of interdisciplinarity. Understands the relationships of the different disciplinal knowledge. Ability: Able to apply the advanced terminology of genetics and population genetics. Able to recognize and integrate the interrelation of the different scientific disciplines. Able to organize data and knowledge based on scientific aspect, able to analyze and interpret. Able to present her/his results on advanced level both in oral and written form. Able to apply the knowledge gained in the advanced scientific interpretation of the phenomenon of genetics and population genetics. - Course content
- The aim of the course is introducing current trends in genetics, genetics in the industry. Main topics of the course: Sex-determination and dosage compensation, epigenetics, LOD analysis, ENCODE project, genomics, gene transfer methods, the genetics of aging, gene regulation by HOX proteins, genetic polymorphism, gene knock out, knock in and knock down technologies, forensic genetics applications
- Assessment method
- k5 = exam mark (5) (1 failed, 5 excellent) Written exam in the examination period. Preparation for the exam from the class material and the given textbooks.
