Course content
The aim of the course is to present an integrated presentation of the biochemical and genetic regulation of the basic processes of cell biology. The main topics of the lecture: Co- and post-translational modifications of polypeptides. Circulation and control of macromolecules between intracellular compartments. ER transport and control. Vesicular transport, membrane flow, and recycling in the endomembrane system. The secretory pathway. Endocytosis. Structure and function of the nucleus and eukaryotic genome. The cytoskeleton: microtubules, cytocenter, microtubular motor proteins, cell division, actin and intermediate filaments, cell movement. Adhesion molecules and their functions involved in the cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix relationship. The cell cycle. Cell communication. Mechanisms of cell death, their occurrences in natural systems. Intracellular and systemic regulation of apoptosis. Tumour formation, metastasis.
Assessment method
k5 = exam mark (5) (1 failed, 5 excellent) The evaluation is based on an assessment of students’ knowledge based on individual performance. Colloquium during the examination period (oral exam).
