Learning outcomes

The lecture will provide a detailed overview of the types of toxic substances and their effects, with a special focus on the nervous system. Neurotoxicological testing methods are also discussed.

Course content

Basics of toxicology, fate of poisons in the human body, target organ toxicity, possible mechanisms of action in neurotoxicity. Toxicological aspects of medical drug research. Natural toxins (plant, fungal, microbial, animal). Artificial toxicant groups, nanomaterials, xenobiotics, pesticides, metal poisoning. Nervous system effects of stimulants, drugs. Neurotoxicological testing methods.
