- Competencies: Knowledge: Understands the strategic aspects of scientific writing. Understands and applies the terminology required for appreciating the various components of scientific writing. Understands the application-publication-dissemination cycle, the relationships of the different forms of scientific writing. Ability: Able to perform high-level strategic planning and thinking during scientific writing. Able to write applications, publications and dissemination pieces on an advanced level Able to apply the knowledge gained for evaluating scientific texts from a strategic perspective. Attitude: Claims to be able to use the knowledge gained in an integrative interpretation of the functioning of living systems. Rule and observe the rules of scientific ethics. Communicate the results of the disciplines strategically. Autonomy and Responsibility: Able to independently analyse and evaluate fundamental professional issues. Responsible for forming sound opinion about the strategic issues of scientific writing. Responsible to understand and learn the materials related to the advanced understanding of application writing, publication, and dissemination. Helps her/his partners in the planned, operative achievement of tasks.
- Course content
- The objective of the course is to develop skills for scientific writing, and to present the strategic aspects. Main topics of the course: The course focuses on developing skills for scientific writing. It provides an overview of the strategic aspects related to applications, publications and disseminations, and it supports the broadening and deepening of the repertoire for scientific writing via a wide variety of writing exercises. Sentence, paragraph, section structure. Manuscript types, review process text types, application text types, science communication text types. Specific strategic considerations, goals per text type. Techniques for improving texts and writing efficiency.
- Assessment method
- gy5 = practice mark (5) (1 failed, 5 excellent) Active participation during the classes, in-presence work on exercises, and short written assignments during the semester. The practice mark is calculated based on the participatory activity’s qualification (50%) and the written assignments’ qualification (50%).
